Eu­ro­pean Com­mis­sion launch­es new al­liance to ad­dress crit­i­cal drug short­ages

The Eu­ro­pean Com­mis­sion on Tues­day laid out the road map for its new ad­vi­so­ry com­mit­tee, the Crit­i­cal Med­i­cines Al­liance ini­tia­tive, which aims to mit­i­gate drug short­ages in Eu­rope over the next five years.

The EC’s Health Emer­gency Pre­pared­ness and Re­sponse Au­thor­i­ty is launch­ing the al­liance which will be­come the “in­dus­tri­al arm” of the Eu­ro­pean Health Union for the next five years. The al­liance will com­mence work in the spring with its first rec­om­men­da­tions on how to im­prove the sup­ply of crit­i­cal med­i­cines, which will be pub­lished by au­tumn this year, ac­cord­ing to the press re­lease.
