Louisiana AG sues UnitedHealth Group subsidiaries over fraud allegations in drug pricing case
Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry is suing UnitedHealth Group’s OptumRx and UnitedHealthcare businesses, alleging the pharmacy benefit manager and insurer overcharged the state’s Medicaid department by billions of dollars every year through inflated prescription drug prices.
The suit, filed earlier this month in a state court, alleges that the two businesses exploited secrecy surrounding the real prices for prescription drugs — and that exploitation forced insurers to pay billions of dollars more per year than they otherwise would. OptumRx is one of the top 3 largest PBMs, or pharmacy benefit managers, akin to pharma middlemen. The suit added:
