Pfizer's Albert Bourla turns to an accomplished dealmaker, strategy expert for its next CFO
David Denton, who was displaced as CFO of CVS after helping engineer the $69 billion merger of his company with Aetna, is jumping into the top numbers job at Pfizer.
Most recently working as CFO of home improvement giant Lowe’s, Denton is moving into the C-suite as Pfizer is widely expected to begin using its multibillion-dollar Covid-19 windfall for a slate of new buyouts and drug deals.
Denton is replacing Frank D’Amelio, who is retiring from Pfizer after a 15-year stint. Denton had exited CVS in the wake of the Aetna merger, grabbing 2 years’ salary on his way out to a new posting at Lowe’s. He’s been given top marks by his employers for strategic thinking, landing inside the inner circle of Bourla’s at a key moment for Pfizer and biopharma in general.
